Lightweight Dynamic Plates (LWD)

Lightweight dynamic plates are used to determine bearing capacity and compaction of pavement layers, backfills and subgrade in civil engineering works. A properly calibrated device is key for reliable assessment of compaction quality and thus for the service life and safety of transport and other structures.

Metrological activities for lightweight dynamic plates

  • Calibration of lightweight dynamic plates for pavement and subgrade testing according to STN 73 6192.
  • Calibration on a reinforced-concrete pile with minimal dynamic response, ensuring stable measurement conditions.
  • Verification of the force impulse characteristics when a 10 kg hammer impacts a 300 mm diameter test plate.
  • Measurement and assessment of the maximum achieved force and the force application time under impact loading.
  • Calibration of the measured settlement of an elastic foundation under an impact force impulse.
  • For recording time histories of force and deformation, we use a reference force gauge and reference incremental length transducers with ensured traceability.
